Mactaggart & Mickel’s homes are built using the latest techniques and sustainable materials following the strategic acquisition of a timber frame manufacturer in 2007. Using the innovative ‘closed-panel’ system, homes can be weather proof within 24 hours, meaning a faster turnaround for customers and less disruption for neighbours.
System History
In Spring 2010, Mactaggart and Mickel went out to tender, to source a new Time & Attendance System. MacMic wanted a company who could provide a full and comprehensive solution with their own application package software or integrated with a 3rd-party application. All companies responding to the tender were required to demonstrate their T&A solution with a set of pre-defined workshop scenarios.

After and extensive selection process it was Isys Intelligent Time and Attendance that was chosen, intergrated with MacMic's internal COINS HR and Payroll Solution, for 700 emplopyees across 8 construction sites, times systems factories and head office.;

Data Capture
MacMic selected Isys’ Finger Geometry Biometric Clocking Terminals, for all construction sites and office staff. This was the most secure and robust option available to them, and matched their requirements perfectly to ensure that only the employee themselves could clock and not another (preventing buddy clocking), and that the terminals could be effectively utilised by construction workers with mucky hands. A selection of the clocking terminals use 3G to transmit data back and forth, which is vital on the construction sites where a wired network infrastructure is not available.
Field Sales and remote employees record time using Isys’ Telephone Clocking Utility. This works perfectly when these employees could literally be anywhere, and ensures that time is recorded accurately for all staff no matter where they’re based.
System Overview
Mactaggart and Mickel currently use two products within the Isys software portfolio:Intelligent Time
Administrated by 13 users in HR, Payroll and line management, the Time and Attendance system is used to accurately capture the working hours of the 700 construction, office staff and sales people that are currently employed. The Time and Attendance software accommodates all of the working rules and practices required by MacMic, with this data then being captured and made available within the Isys Reporting Suite, of which over 250 reports are extractable. All hourly paid, salaried and contract staff have their hours, overtime, holiday/sickness/absence exported to COINS Payroll fortnightly and monthly according to their specific payroll runs. This is a HUGE time-saver, and has massively reduced internal costs for MacMic.
Intelligent HR
Isys’ sophisticated HR system is integrated with COINS HR. Intelligent HR and COINS synchronise employee data for training, health & safety, flexitime, holidays, sickness and absence. This further maximises visibility with all departments in MacMic, and prevents duplication and re-entry of information. Isys has also developed specific workflow and triggering in accordance with MacMic’s requirements to add further value to the system, and provide further efficiencies within the HR department. All HR data and records are available within the Reporting suite where scheduled reports can be set up and emailed out to managers at certain dates to provide them with the required HR data.
“Mactaggart & Mickel have been making use of the Finger Geometry devices and the Telephone Clocking facilities since February 2011.
We currently have 11 devices installed: 1 at our Head Office, 8 across our construction sites and 2 at our Timber Systems Factories.The Finger Geometry is robust which is ideal for our construction sites, simple to install and easy to use. One of the key advantages of having the finger geometry devices is visibility of real time information for all staff on site which is important for Health & Safety. They also provide accurate information for HR and Payroll purposes.
We also make full use of the telephone clocking facility. This is very low maintenance and the Isys pre recorded instructions menu is easy to follow. We find this useful for employees who are out on business, site start up or winding down where no device is available and also as part of our disaster recovery plan.
During the 10 months we have had the Finger Geometry devices we are more than happy that they meet the needs of the business and the key objectives of the project. Isys continue to work with Mactaggart & Mickel developing the software to allow the system to grow with the company.”
