According to the telegraph online leaked emails from the UK Borders Agency suggest that passport checks were relaxed around 2,500 times at airports over the summer potentially letting thousands of illegal workers enter the country.

Figures published by Labour state there are between 80 and 90,000 flights on private jets landing in Britain every year, each carrying upwards of 2 passengers.

These leaked emails show that border checks were downgraded several times over the summer. Averaged over 14 weeks of the summer it is suggested that the UKBA abandoned full biometric passport checks around 2,450 times.

Immigrants that have now obtained entry into the UK through these relaxed border checks may now be looking for work, meaning that coupled with the harder stance the UKBA is taking towards ‘right to work’ it is paramount that employers ensure all their workforce (new and old) are accurately screened and vetted and have all relevant identity documentation verified.
